As a photographer, my favorite wedding days are those where the client puts their complete trust and faith in me and the process. Having that trust allows me to not only get those must-get shots at your wedding but also those in-between moments to tell the story. This specific ceremony was unique because the bride is a wedding videographer and no stranger to the wedding day creative process.
The wedding preparations took place at Rock Creek Resort, tucked away in the breathtaking Beartooth Mountains. My favorite thing about shooting in Red Lodge is all the natural beauty. Take those picture-perfect views and put them outside a venue with space for preparation, ceremony, reception, and lodging and you have the makings for a party!
The ceremony took place in Red Lodge at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Inside, I was granted much more freedom of movement than I normally expect in a Catholic sanctuary. I was easily able to move about and capture those small yet important moments to tell the story and fill the album. Different religious leaders, and places of worship, have their own rules that I must follow. I always check in with the officials before to see where I can go and what I can do.
It’s music to my ears when the officiant informs me that the couple already made a point to speak with them about how important photography is and that the photographer will need to be able to move around a bit. (Thanks Abbey & “hint, hint” to the rest of you!)
A wedding is one of the most important events in someone’s life, and traditions play a significant role in making it meaningful and memorable. They can be spiritual, cultural, and/or deeply personal. Abbey and Garrett brought in many traditions, from seeing each other for the first time at the altar, to gifts provided by the family to symbolize aspects of marriage.
I love documenting uniquely human traditions.
Everyone had a blast at the wedding reception. The guys from MY Custom DJ came up from Wyoming and always bring a party! I was able to grab some pictures of the newlyweds and their families, along with some spontaneous moments that really brought a warm feeling to the story.
So much goes into a wedding, and it is so important that you can trust the team you have assembled to help make your day amazing. I wanted to say a huge thank you to the following vendors for all the hard work, I’m excited to see you at the next one!
